In this course on the Punk movement you will study its history and the role that youth subcultures played in contemporary history, while creating your own punk fanzine. In the late 1970s a new youth subculture emerged in the UK, punk, and with it a cultural upheaval was taking place . You will study how it emerged and its diverse range of meanings, as well as being a tool of expression for young people, and how it relates to politics and events. Also to gender, class, race, sexuality and protest, making comparisons with youth culture today.
This is a free course, created and delivered by the University of Reading , where you will also discover the creative side of punk . You will explore DIY punk design and writing, epitomised by zines.
